How to set up free website (blog)

I've received a lot of email lately from people asking how they can set up their own blogs for family, friends, or business purposes without spending much money or hiring an expensive programmer or web developer.

Well, ask no more because I will now show you exactly how to get your own blog without dipping too far into your own pocket (if at all) and get up and running, even if you don't have your own website, hosting account, or domain name.

You basically get two choices when it comes to setting up a blog: host it yourself, or use a service that hosts the blog for you.

Each one carries advantages based on your level of skill, experience and how many options you want to add to your blog.

If you choose to host your blog on your own website, then you can pick from a number of different options, including MoveableType.org and WordPress.org.

However, if you don't want to host it yourself, you can also go to Yahoo.com, put in the term "free blog" and obtain a long list of services that will host a blog for you, either free of charge or for a fee.

Probably the best-known free blog service resides at Blogger.com

Recently purchased by Google, Blogger boasts thousands of blogs on topics ranging from ecommerce to pet manners.

Blogger enables you to set up a functional blog in about 5 minutes and start posting your thoughts, rants, or family facts with the world.

Log on to http://Spaces.MSN.com and find another free option offered by Microsoft's online service, MSN.

This service makes it a bit easier to share photos than Blogger, which requires a separate software tool called Picasa (also available from Google for free).

MSN's blogger service also seems to appeal more to individuals sharing their thoughts than to businesses trying to scare up new customers or get their links crawled by search engine spiders (another advantage of publishing a blog).

So if you're publishing the family blog, this one might offer more of the user-friendly options you need.

The one drawback to using free services always comes back to the age-old saying, "You get what you pay for!"

These free blog services come with virtually zero customer support, so if you can't figure it out on your own, good luck finding anyone to assist you.

If you don't mind paying $5 a month, you can get a full-featured weblog at TypePad.com that offers a decent level of customer support.

The blogs available here offer many more features than Blogger or MSN, but also require you to understand a bit more about blogging's more advanced features like "trackback links" and "pinging" blog directories to let them know you've updated your blog (so others can come take a look at your new material).

Regardless of whether you choose the free or paid option, using a hosted blogging solution rates best when getting started.

CLASSIFIED ADS
(Please note that classified ads must be posted for a minimum duration of

four (4) weeks or a month)

(1) Register with the adsite of your choice. A confirmation email will be sent to your inbox.

(2) Confirm your registration.

(3) Post your ad on the adsite accordingly. Other adsites require admin approval of the ads you have posted. If this is so, wait for the approval email. If approval is not required, you can immediately view your ad.

SAFELISTS
(Please check the rules of every assignment if how many times you can use per domain)

1. Make 2 email accounts, you can use any of the following email providers below:

www.gmail.com
www.ablewise.com
www.sify.com
www.ownmail.net
www.dcemail.com

One email is your contact mail and the other is your subscribed mail. Subscribed email is where your ads will be sent. Contact email is more confirmation of your membership with safelists.

2. Register to any safelist. It is better to subscribe to one (1) safelist at a time. It is recommended to register with this safelist for starters: http://oneclickhosting.biz .

3. Validate your registration.

4. Log in to the safelist you have registered in.

5. Some safelists have an option to register thru just one click. Just go to JOIN ALL LISTS and you will be registered to all the lists included in that safelist.

6. Validate your membership to all lists, log in to those lists and post your ads.

7. Then check your ads in your subscribed email. Be sure to look into your spam folder as well.

OPT IN GROUPS
How to place an Ad for OPtIn groups

Go to yahoo groups and sign in using your yahoo junkmail
Open a tab for your resource list
Copy a link under the optin category

Example:
001_home_biz_opps@yahoogroups.com

Remove the @yahoogroups.com
Copy paste the 001_home_biz_opps at the search box
When the link appears go and join the group. Under the message delivery option click on WEB only option before you type the code.
After you are given permission click on POST then type your ad
After you send the AD click on Messages.

However, for only $10, you can have your data stored for one year so that you can promote your site over and over without retyping the information. Self-promotion allows you to promote your site to over 400 different search engines, indexes, business directories, international indexes, directories and awards.

Intelligent Web Marketing: Using proprietary technology we can deliver from 30 thousand to 60 million targeted visitors directly to your site. Unlike average banners, pop-ups, and pop-under displays, our advertising delivery system presents your site in a full size, fully functional browser application window. In addition, the targeted advertising is delivered only to internet users who have shown an interest in receiving ads related to your product or service.

The one free utilities above let you submit one URL to 400 different search engines and indices at a time. However, in some cases submitting your home page URL alone isn't enough. You have to "deep submit" your site. Deep submit is nothing more than submitting each and every page of your site. If you have 100 pages in your site, then you must use the above free, utilities 100 times to submit all of them (possible with Self-Promotion's paid service.) But don't worry. You can use the following deep submit utilities to submit multiple URLs at the same time.

By using the utilities above, you have submitted your site to most of the search engines and indices. It may take anywhere between three weeks to six months for your site to be indexed.

OPEN DIRECTORY: Recently, when Netscape purchased NewHoo, the Open Directory, I was quick to submit my site to be included. The only complaint I have with the Open Directory Project is that the editor in the category you are trying to submit your site to may be your competitor and may try to list your site lower in the list. But you can submit your site to three or four different categories if it belongs. Recently, Lycos and HotBot adopted the Open Directory, and AltaVista is adopting it soon, so getting listed with the Open Directory may bring you a lot of traffic.

Overture.com Even though it is not free, "GoTo.com is now overture.com" can bring targeted traffic to your site at a low cost. To get listed with GoTo.com you have to open an account with a minimum of $25, then bid on keywords that you would like to target. The minimum bid for each keyword is $0.01. I would recommend bidding $0.01 on 500-1000 keywords related to your site. You can bid high on 5-10 keywords that are really important to your site and bid $0.01 on others.

To generate 500-1000 keywords related to your site, use Jim Tools keyword generator at http://www.jimtools.com. If you type in two or three keywords related to your site, the keyword generator searches the web for similar sites and compiles list of keywords by reading their Meta tags. Usually, if you bid on 1000 keywords, you will get between 75-100 hits a day.

YAHOO!: Even though getting listed on Yahoo is a pain and it may take up to six months, most sites get the majority of their traffic from Yahoo!. Also try submitting to Yahoo! Local or International if your site fits. If you submitted your site to Yahoo! and nothing happened for four or five weeks, try submitting again in the same category, or maybe in a different category. You can get good tips on how to get listed on Yahoo! at search engine forums at: http://searchengineforums.com/bin/Ultimate.cgi

PRWEB: Press releases are one of the most effective ways to generate traffic to your site. If written well, they can be very effective. OK, you've joined SFI. So what IS it and what do you have to do to create a lucrative business?

You basically have ONE simple objective...to refer people to your SFI Website.

For most promotions, all you're doing is offering valuable FREE stuff that people can sign up for 24 hours a day! You're not asking for a commitment. You're not asking people to spend a penny. Just offer FREE STUFF...that's all you have to do! Our system takes care of almost everything else.

Once at your SFI Website, some of your prospects and customers will decide to purchase some of our OVER 1 MILLION products and services.
